Family of 5 in Tinum
The sixth house seems to have had 5 people living at it (my spanish isn't great and my Maya is nonexistent so I often miss this that are being said. The grandmother at the house was 90 years old and seemed to be incredibly spry for her age. I told her how beautiful she was and commented on how great she looked. Her daughter told me that her mother was very sick and that she had breast cancer. The father in the house seemed to have some sort of trouble getting around, I'm not

Sometimes speaking the same language isn't necessary ~ In Tinum
The fifth house had 3 generations living in it. The mom came out to shake my hand to greet us but grandma came and gave me a big toothless kiss and hug. The granddaughter told me she was 8 but was quick to add that she was almost 9. She said that she loves school and that math is her favorite class. In the villages most people speak Maya and don't learn Spanish till school, so the younger generations are bilingual but many of the elderly only speak Maya. I only understand a h

The old man waiting for his wife in Tinum
House number 4 was up on top of a little hill by the railroad tracks. I could hear Alan talking to the man at the door, he was asking for the mans wife but she wasn't home. We told him we had a gift for him and he sounded nervous to let us in without his wife being home but opened the door as soon as he heard it was a despensa. The front of the home was concrete but had a stick palapa attached to the back which was used as the kitchen. As soon as he saw me take my camera out

Tinum House #3

Three of the most lovely ladies were home but the told us that 2 other women live there as well. They support themselves by cooking food and selling it to other families. Smiles, giggles and warmth surro

We left the first house and this man was standing in front. Allen told me that we were going to the old man's house next and that he lived next door. The woman from the first house walked up to the man, and yelled in his ear DESPENSAS! Apparently he was mostly deaf. He turned and led the way to his home. The picture of the little hut is his home, I couldn't get a picture of the inside because it was too small, it was barely big enough to hang his hammock in, defiantly the sma

Mexico Mission 2017 House #1Village of Tinum
House #1 Today we were in the village of Tinum. It's the first time I'd ever been there. Allen, one of my dad's employees lives there and was able to help us find families in need in his community. We pulled up to a thatched roof home made of sticks. The grandparents and 7 year old boy were home. I was carrying a soccer ball in my hands so the boys eyes lit up immediately. Take a close look at the pants of the old man. Tattered, patched and held up by rope. The walls of the h
