But how did these products come to be so unforgettable?
Growing up in Northern New England, Gail was surrounded by a family of fishermen, carpenters, dressmakers, and metal smiths who relied on their hands to make their living. Some of her most noticeable inspirations are these childhood influences; the lace she uses as a texture in many of her pieces was originally made by her grandmother as a young girl living in Newfoundland. In addition, Gail also feels that nature is the best artist she has ever encountered, and loves to incorporate its colors and landscapes into her pieces. She loves to use small pieces of coral and sea urchins to texture her work, and is drawn to the blues of water and the bright colors of autumn leaves.
The name "Mud Lily" came to Gail after spending many hours on her yoga mat, where she finds that she really listens to her inner voice. The mud lily, or lotus flower, blooms beautifully at the surface of a pond, but only after having grown in the muddy waters below. For Gail, this flower represents peace, enlightenment, and life's journey. It is symbolic of the drive to reach one's full potential. Every porcelain Mud Lily adornment begins with mud - the earth's clay - and celebrates the journey of finding beauty and peace within.
